Once we decided we wanted to create a live performance music video, I began to reasearch bands who had also done this, and looked at the conventions and similarities of the videos. One particular video I researched was Greenday's video for song 'American Idiot'. I also looked at TakeThat's video for 'Patience'.
Within this performance music video, the first thing I noticed was costumes of the band members, as each was similar in the way that dark colours were worn by all; I believe this is to portray their rock genre.
The set up of the band and camera angles shows the band members all together, so that the band is being promoted, however lots of closeups also allows each member to be established.
Looking at TakeThat's music video, it takes a different approach as although it shows a performance at the end of the video, a narrative approach is also taken.
Like Greenday's video, the camera shots portray the band as a whole, but also equally show each individual band member to show who they are. I further noticed that the lead singer is shown more frequently to the other band members.
We are going to take these conventions on board and aim to use them within our own performance music video.
