Group Meeting Three

Today we met as a group to discuss more ideas and the next step of the task. I gave the rest of the members in the group a copy of the questions which Alan Westwood had answered. We agreed that the best thing to do would be to meet the band in order to talk about ideas they have for the music video.

Email To Group

I emailed the group to send them the music file of the track the band wish to use for the video.

Group Meeting Two

Today the group met to discuss our progress so far.
As a group, we have all completed research about 3 bands each; these bands are similar to that of our band Starfish through their genre or image.

In this hour meeting, we began to discuss ideas for a possible logo and also began to think about ideas for the main task of the music video.

Email To Band Member

I emailed one of the band members, Alan Westwood, to ask him some of the questions about the band we were yet to answer.

I emailed group members to remind them of the day to meet, so we can discuss the work we have done so far and ideas for the band.

Email To Band Representative

I emailed the band representative in reply to him sending the music track in which they wish to use for the video.

Group Meeting One

On Friday 19th of November, our group met to discuss what roles each member would be taking. After much discussion, the group decided on the following roles;

Kerrin = Producer
Emily = Director
Paige = Designer
Jamie = Technical Person

After deciding our group roles, we worked out and discussed the free study periods we had in common, and concluded that every Thursday we would meet to discuss the task ahead.

Email To Band Representative

Unfortunately we were unable to meet our band representative on the day scheduled, as he was unable to attend. As other band representatives knew of the band Starfish, they helped answer some of the basic questions we had. On this day, on behalf of our group, I emailed Stephen Streater (our band's represenative) and asked him if he would be able to answer the questions are group had. I explained to him how this would help us to get to know the band and to understand what they are about.

Band Influences

After researching our bands website, we found that Starfish have noted what bands they are influenced by, and what music they enjoy playing; these included - Foo Fighters, The Killers, Manics, McFly, Squeeze, Take That, Stereophonics, McFly, You Me At Six, Bowling For Soup, New Found Glory, Greenday, Katy Perry and Girls Aloud.

Our group assigned 3 of these bands to each member of our group with the aim to research them and their music videos. This allowed us to get an idea of what our band may be like, and it also gave us an idea of music videos of a similar genre.

Band Research

Group Members:
Myself
Emily
Paige
Jamie

After finding out my group members and the band we would be working with, I straight away thought about researching the band; Starfish

I thought about what questions we could ask the band representative, in order to gather as much information about the band as possible.

  1. Do you have a lead singer?
  1. What is your genre?
  1. What is your style?
  1. What bands are you influenced by?
  1. Would you be willing to change your logo/create one?
  1. What is your target audience?
  1. What instruments do you play?
  1. What colours do you think represent your band?
  1. What image do you wish to give to your audience?
I also found that the band had a website, so I set about reading about them to get an idea of who they are and what they are about. The first piece of information I collected was the name of the group members;
- Stephen Streater
- Mark Roden
- Alan Westwood
- Alan Thompson

I then went about researching what genre the band is and what instruments they play, and ended up answering some of my own questions.
Genre = Rock
Instuments played = Guitars, Bass Guitar and Drums
